Excavation of Dwarka

Uncovering the Sunken Legacy of Lord Shri Krishna

The ancient city of Dwarka—believed to be the capital of Lord Shri Krishna's kingdom—has long captured the imagination of devotees, historians, and archaeologists. Resting beneath the Arabian Sea off the coast of Gujarat, this submerged spiritual metropolis holds secrets of India's divine past.

Pre-Jai Dwarka Campaign Excavations

The first significant underwater archaeological efforts began in the 1980s and 1990s, led by the Marine Archaeology Unit (MAU) of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), under the leadership of Dr. S. R. Rao. These expeditions revealed submerged structures, stone anchors, and artefacts dating back over 3,500 years. Findings such as walls, bastions, and grids of a planned city validated descriptions from ancient texts like the Mahabharata and Harivamsa.

Despite these breakthroughs, mainstream attention and large-scale continuation remained limited, leaving the full truth of Dwarka buried beneath waves.

Post-Jai Dwarka Campaign Excavation

A Movement Rekindled, A Nation Reawakened

The Jai Dwarka Campaign, launched on World History Day 2024 in Hyderabad, reignited national and global interest in the lost city. It combined spiritual fervor with public mobilization and government engagement, calling for the completion of Dwarka's underwater exploration.

This movement led to a historic milestone:
In early 2025, under the direction of Dr. Alok Tripathi, ASI resumed and expanded the excavation at Beyt Dwarka and Dwarka Coast with renewed government support and global attention.

Key findings post-campaign include:

  • Advanced urban planning features such as symmetrical building bases and drainage systems.

  • Massive stone anchors and jetty-like structures, indicating maritime trade.

  • Unique artifacts and spiritual relics, reinforcing Dwarka’s identity as a divine city.

These discoveries not only confirm the historical and spiritual authenticity of the submerged Dwarka but also mark the beginning of a deeper understanding of our ancient civilizational wisdom.

Why It Matters

The excavation of Dwarka is not just an archaeological pursuit—it is a national awakening. The Jai Dwarka Campaign ensures that these findings are not lost in dusty archives but are celebrated, shared, and spiritually reconnected with millions of devotees worldwide.

Through this campaign, we envision a future where Dwarka rises again—not just from the sea, but from the hearts of humanity.

Let us continue this sacred journey together.
Join the movement. Dive into history. Jai Dwarka!
